I {heart} Hannah.

“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.” —Winnie the Pooh

Things have been so busy lately that I haven’t pursued many photo sessions since the new year so I was thrilled to finally have a new little one to photograph this past weekend. I’ve been anticipating photographing this little one since November so even with as busy as I’ve been I must admit I was a little anxious to pause and squeeze in a photo session between the many things I’m juggling. If you’ve been following my photography you may recall maternity photos from last month with Matt & Lynn. Rarely do I get to meet with the parents before the photo session but now that I’ve gotten to photograph their little girl I definitely think having that time to get to know them during their maternity session before their baby was born certainly helped make their newborn session that much more memorable.

When newborns first arrive for photos it’s pretty common that they wake up not long after beginning the session. Hannah arrived nice and sleepy and I spent the first few minutes just admiring this beautiful little girl. I know Matt & Lynn have lots of family and friends up north anxious to see photos of their little girl so here Hannah is at just 9 days old.

She was still so new and curly.

She did wake up briefly early on in the session, but just long enough to greet me with a huge smile.

We wrapped her up and she went right back to sleep.

Matt & Lynn decided not to find out what they were having before Hannah was born so they had lots of yellow and green baby items. I found it only fitting to take a photo of her in “neutral” baby style.

It didn’t take long for me to accumulate so many great sleepy moments with this precious little girl. Hannah is such a perfect little girl.

Matt & Lynn were thrilled to learn their little one was a girl. They let me know it’s been 20+ years since a girl was born in the family. Something tells me this little girl is going to be spoiled. I just loved the girly accessories Matt & Lynn brought to the session.

Yes, she slept most of the session. It was a newborn photographer’s dream.:)

I decided to change lenses to take macro photos and glanced over noticing Matt comforting Hannah. It was quite touching to see him admiring his little girl. He was right beside me the entire session offering a helping hand continually through the session.

I admired Hannah more closely and managed to capture some of the little things that years from now Matt & Lynn will be thankful to look back on.

Hannah showed her personality throughout the session greeting me with some of the cutest little expressions.

Matt & Lynn agreed to try this next pose that definitely wouldn’t have been possible without their help. Hannah was so cooperative with such a challenging pose.

She really slept most of the time.

We decided to try one of the shots from their maternity session. It’s not nearly the same, but close…and is a great before/after photo for them to reflect on how much their lives have changed in just over a month.

Yes, life has definitely changed. Hannah slept most of the time during the session but she did wake up to feed about every hour and she definitely let us know when she was hungry!

Lynn couldn’t be happier than to finally be holding her little girl. It’s always so touching to see the bond new mother’s have with their little ones.

Matt is such an amazing father. Many times men aren’t as receptive to holding their little ones unclothed. Matt was more than willing. Of course we were all a little skeptical because Hannah had already pooped once in the session while she was diaperless. I truly love to capture a photo of the baby’s bottom, but in this case, when I mentioned that we all laughed because we knew we had a little stinker on our hands. Little did I know that just after these shots she’d poop on her Daddy a few times.

I really have to not only commend Matt but thank him for being so cooperative. He was more than willing to continue with the poses despite being pooped on. So we kept posing Hannah to take one more photo of her in her Daddy’s hands. Just after this shot she pooped another time or two. I think Matt will agree that it was all worth getting this one amazing shot of him holding his little girl. It’s definitely a photo I will never forget.

Matt & Lynn have definitely been blessed.
