A year of photobooth

I must admit that a year ago when we began the monthly trips to photobooth that I wasn’t so sure if I’d be able to keep up with the idea…I mean, I am just a little busy these days. Here we are a year later and this evening I proudly compiled the photobooth pictures so...

December 25, 2008 - 12:00 am Amanda Kern - Thanks guys. Yes, Eddie this is far from my last attempt at screen printing! :o) And Phyllis...do I really need anything more to add to my to do list? I've been told by many that I could sell these...but ah, time...I'd much rather buy some of that. Do they sell that on etsy too? :o) And of course if I don't have your address...I'm taking orders for next year...email me your mailing address. :o)

December 26, 2008 - 11:08 am Dennis S - Merry Christmas! Those cards look so good you should consider starting a line or maybe selling the idea to Hallmark®. And the Babies as beautiful as ever.

November 2, 2008 - 11:27 am Tanya - I can't believe he is growing up so fast. As I had said a while back in a e-mail it just seemed like yesterday I was holding him as a newborn!. I sure wish I was healthier and in a better condition with the job situation etc that I could have been down there. I sure do miss them. I look at the pictures and hear their giggles and wish I was there. It makes me happy and sad. Hopefully things will turn around fast. Give them both hugs and kisses from me and Ashley and tell them that we love them and wish we could be there. Love you guys!

Hello First Grade!

It seems as though I blinked and the summer has passed us by. This past week Hope began the first grade. I must admit that the last few weeks she’s been anxiously awaiting school to start. So on the first day of school it was no surprise that she was excited. I found myself jotting...

June 19, 2008 - 4:02 pm kiki - That's wonderful your book! I tried to download the program from blurb, but it doesn't work! :(

June 21, 2008 - 9:54 pm Tera - Gorgeous book. I wish I had one from my years in school! What program did you use to make the pages? Did you use templates or create them all yourself? Hope will certainly cherish your efforts for years to come.

June 21, 2008 - 10:45 pm Amanda Kern - Thanks for all the great feedback! @Kiki - blurb offers programs for both mac and pc so as long as you have a current computer it should work - perhaps try contacting blurb directly if you are having problems. @Tera - I used blurb.com's software to produce the book - however, the first half of the book which was created like a scrapbook I just used photoshop to compose the layouts - they're not a template.

August 10, 2009 - 9:21 pm Ginger - Seriously, let me link you into my iphotos and let you have your liberties.

Goodbye Kindergarten

So we’re into the first week in June and I’m just wondering who could tell me where the time has gone? As Hope just finished Kindergarten this past week, I was reminded of Hope’s first day of school. I’ve been amazed with how much she has learned this year. She’s grown by leaps and bounds...

June 7, 2008 - 10:24 pm Phyllis Hanson - Amanda, that is pretty darn amazing. Let me see, Savannah is 15 now and I've yet to even put her photos in an album- much less create one digitally. What a great remembrance of a special year for Hope! You're such a good Mommy! ;o)

June 8, 2008 - 3:54 am Amanda Kern - Thanks Phyllis. Well, I hate to admit it but I haven't finished any photo album or scrapbooks for Hope either. I have had the guilt trip for not finishing her baby scrapbook for the longest time. I really enjoy scrapbooking but between the fact that it is time consuming, things easily fall out of the books, and that I couldn't easily duplicate the scrapbooks so Hope and I would each have our own copy I really never devoted as much time to doing them. In fact, I have a ton of scrapbook supplies sitting in my closet waiting to be used. But NOW that there are sites like blurb that allow you to self publish I'd so much rather create a book that becomes a keepsake and as you can see in the preview I am able to design it with photoshop in a way that it can be similar to a scrapbook. With this project I approached the first half of it like a scrapbook and the last half solely featured including the imagery so that it was more like a "photo album". And the best part of it all is that it's not any extra work for me to duplicate the book so I can order a copy for myself, Hope and then also share it with her classmates, her teacher, and our family & friends. And though I'd hate to admit how much time I spent working on it between planning the ideas for it, taking the photos, and then creating the layouts in photoshop - it was so worth every minute of it. I'm finding that with the more books I create, the faster I become at creating them and blurb makes it super easy to create the book. In fact, so easy that I'm planning on now creating separate books for Jaylen and Hope's first year and then a separate book for each year after. If you haven't tried creating a blurb book - I highly recommend it. I've been quite pleased with both how easy they are to create and the final end results of each one I've created.

June 8, 2008 - 8:50 pm Barbara Peterson - Hi Amanda and Phyllis, I've been at this a lot longer than either of you and regardless of whether you put pictures in a scrapbook or not if you are there for your kids - as both you two are - they will be just fine. Remember there was a time when no one had baby books and people survived. But isn't it great that we have all these pictures to totally embarrass them at their weddings, graduations or whatever! Been there done that!

June 9, 2008 - 10:57 am k. simari - awwww. that is so cute! She will treasure that forever. I was thinking about doing something like this for my daughter and her friends. they got to OCSA (Osceola County School for The Arts) and the yearbook there is almost $80.00 and my daughter refuse to get it because i guess the yearbook committee only featured themselves and their friends... it would be cool to let her take some photos with her and her friends and we could make her own little yearbook! This is a really cool idea. i love it. and you are a good mommy!!! :)

June 9, 2008 - 4:52 pm Mandy - Aw, it's so cute that Hope wants to be in school during the summer!

My velociraptor

This past month I was humored to hear Jaylen’s crying compared to a velociraptor. He’s started to become much more vocal and and expressive, which includes his cries. So the next time you watch Jurassic Park you may just think you’re hearing my baby dinosaur crying. Here’s a little video I took of him yesterday...
